Thrill Her Party This Friday Night

admin
on 12 May 2009

So after the success of the Poke Her party last Friday night, this weeks theme is Thrill Her. I have put together this video dance tutorial to teach you the steps to Thriller so we can all join in a group dance chorus on the night! There will be a community dance lesson at the venue from 10:00pm and then through out the night when you hear the blood curdling scream rush to the dance floor for a group dance chorus!

You need to a flashplayer enabled browser to view this YouTube video

Disgraceland is every Friday night at Nevermind 169 Oxford St Darlinghurst Sydney Australia. Doors open at 10pm.

I’ve got broken bones, not from the stick and stones

Push the button

So yesterday was my first day skiing on the beautiful Whistler Mountain in Canada. Winter PRIDE has had such a vibe on the mountain and the apres have been packed

Aware of my official duties, performing at the Fashion Parade and Final of Mr Gay World, and of course my new FAKE show opening at the Shift on Friday the 13th and the debut of Gentlemen Prefer Bloke, I decided to take the green ski runs down the mountain (they are the beginners ones). I spent about 45 minutes going up the mountain in the gondolas and chair lifts in awe of the stillness and beauty.

I met some lovely fellow Gay Ski Weekers on the Peak to Peak Gondola and they invited me to join them, we were whizzing along on the brisk, fresh snow when I lost sight of them ahead of me. I wasn’t sure if they went right or left, they went right, I went left. Somehow i deviated off the Green trail and onto something a little more treacherous. Aware of the danger I tried to slow down, unfortunately my right ski twisted underneath me and broke my leg. Initially I was sure that it was just a bruise and i would be fine to get up after a few moments rest. Unfortunately that was not so and I was tobogganed on the back of a snow mobile all the way down the hill before being taken to the Whistler Medical Center in an Ambulance.

Once there I got something for the paid and some X-rays which revealed that I had   broken my lower right tibia and fibula. *Ouch*. I was then transported to a bigger hospital in Vancouver when I was operated on today and had metal plates put into my leg. I have managed to spike someone WiFi and am writing this post from my hospital bed. I am hoping that they will let me out on Saturday so I can make it back up to Whistler to fulfil my duties and perform at the final of Mr Gay World… albeit in a wheelchair. Fingers crossed.

The biggest lesson I have learnt from this is:: ALWAYS GET TRAVEL INSURANCE!!! Thank god my Father insisted on me renewing my yearly travel insurance before i went to Europe in July. I would not have bothered if Dad had not repeatedly brought it up. Thank you Dad!

*Warning* This post was written under the influence of Morphine, I will proof it again in the morning!

Mr Gay World + Gay Ski Week + Winter Pride = GAY GAY GAY

Gay Ski Week Day 1

I have arrived in Whistler, Canada today for Gay Ski Week! It is so beautiful and there is soft snow falling. I flew over with the Australia & New Zealand delegates for Mr Gay World and Andrew Cregh, editor of DNA Magazine. I fell asleep before take off and only woke up at meal times! The perfect flight, direct from Sydney to Vancouver!

This is the first time I have seen snow falling! I have been to NZ Gay Ski Week and to Thredbo, but I have only seen already fallen snow, or man-made snow… not quite the same.

Day One entailed some looking around the Village, some grocery shopping, a quick trip to the welcome drinks followed by dinner with Eric, Carlos & Tore from Mr Gay World and the lovely Andrew, at a delicious Italian restaurant called Trattoria Umberto’s, after that we popped into ..? Bufalo Bills for a click and a shimmy. It was quiet until the DJ droped Beyonce Single Ladies  then all of a sudden the gays were off and dancing and you could not get them off the floor!

I will be performing on Thursday night at the United Colors of  Winter PRIDE Fashion Show and on Saturday night at the grand final of Mr Gay World! There is such an action packed week of events I can’t wait. Make sure you check out the delegates for Mr Gay World and go to Manhunt to vote for your favourite online!

Gentlemen Prefer Blokes Poster

I am very excited for the 2009 Mardi Gras Festival. The Festival Guide gets launched today and all of the exciting acts will be revealed. I know Joan Rivers, Alan Cummngs & Roberta Flack are all included in the line-up which sounds fabby!

Trevor Ashley and I are teaming forces as well to bring to the stage a very camp musical comedy titled Gentlemen Prefer Blokes. Trevor Ashley, Phil Scott, Tony Taylor and myself have been working on the show for months now, and we are just getting ready to film some camp video sketches to stitch the madness together.

We open in Parramatta at the Riverside Theaters on February the 19th (the day after my birthday) and then in Sydney at the Civic Hotel Underground on the 20th of February all the way through to the 6th of March. The Civic has undergone some very glamorous refreshments featuring state of the art lighting and sound, white leather, mirrors and perspex for days!

You can go to GentlemenPreferBlokes.com  to find out more and to book tickets. Or click below to skip straight to the booking page.

Oxford Pride

My trip to the UK & Europe kicked off with a visit to Oxford for their Pride celebrations. Oxford was a beautiful place and it was so nice to get out and see different parts of England. It was like being on the set of a movie, cobblestone streets and Ye Olde Worlde Shoppe’s everwhere. The lovely Mazz Image was my host whilst I was there as she was head of the organising committee for Pride. She did a marvelous job pulling together Oxfords extended gay scene with a fun day in the park as well as Oxfords first ever Pride march. I performed in the park and also at the afterparty. Thank you to Mazz & Julian for taking care of me whilst I was there.

Mamma Mia

Mamma Mia The Movie

The world was waiting for the premiere of Mamma Mia the movie and it all happened last night in Melbourne. Meryl Streep & Colin Firth were in town to premiere the film to a very enthusiastic audience at Melbourne Central and to celebrate at a fabulous after party with entertainment by yours truly!!

I got to see the film a couple of weeks ago so that i could be inspired to create the after party show, and inspire me it did! The film was so camp! To prepare for the show I purchased the Abba Number Ones album off iTunes… OMG! I had always liked Abba’s music, but never really… felt it before. But when I cranked that album through my apartment and danced away to all of the fabulous tunes from Gimme Gimme right through to I Have A Dream I fell in love with Abba for the first time.

You just can’t go wrong with the music of Abba, and with the whole after party getting a good camp dose of it (and Meryl) only moments prior to my show I knew I was onto a good thing. I had six wonderful dancers led and choreographed by the fabulous Yvette Lee. Yvette did a fabulous job on the chore, it was fun, exciting and looked beautiful (as you will see in the video). We had one little wardrobe malfunction but nothing that inhibited the show. Meryl was up out of her seat dancing and the audience was loving it sick!

Afterwards I came out to meet the crowd and got to spend a couple of minutes chatting with Ms Streep and her makeup & hair artist, Roy. Roy used to be a drag queen, once again proving that we know how to make women look good! Speaking of … Meryl… What a beautiful lady, I shan’t gush on, but she had a very peaceful aura about her.

When I had finished beating my path through the thongs of women to say hi to Colin Firth I was delighted to see my favourite set of legs and yours… Rhonda Burchmore! She is always a slide of heaven. She complimented me on my Christmas cards (what am I going to do this year) and we compared legs! She is just such a fun lady, I would really love to work with her one day. I then got a happy snap with Colin and continued on my way home.

And here is the video:

I have to make the following thank you’s:

Michael Whitemore – official companion, video and stills, McGayver and undoer of what he had done

Ian Gordon @ Atlas Worx for the amazing show audio

Yvette Lee & all of the dancers for such a fab rehearsal and performance!
